We will be enjoying an old Cretan village on the northwest coast of the island, walking through olive groves, wandering down to the coast and discovering other inspirational settings, brushes and easels in tow. Then back to the house or to a local taverna for some home-cooked Cretan food. Later relaxing in the evening over a glass of wine discussing the day’s activities and the wider world of art; or maybe just sitting on the balcony under the star-filled sky, savouring the honeysuckle and listening to the night. Afternoon outings to local areas of interest with Mr. Curry have proved to be extremely popular as well as the weekly guided tour to Hania’s old town. Flower walks and hill climbs are also organized in response to our guests’ abilities and interests. So whether you’re looking for that inspiration to create your masterpiece or just fancy having a go because it’s always something you wanted to do, come on down, you won’t regret it.
Why don’t you join us?
Our main base of operations is “The House of Kerash Bey” (sleeps eight) originally built by descendents of Gramvousa pirates during the Turkish occupation of Crete and recently renovated for our purposes. It is situated in the quiet village of Drapanias, nestled on three sides by olive clad hills and looking out over the Bay of Kastelli. Alternative accommodation is offered in a family run pension right on the beach. All meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included; all scheduled trips, workshops and seminars will be open to artists and their partners.
Guidance and encouragement will be given by your host Allan Curry MA (former tutor at many Fine Art colleges including Goldsmiths and Central St.Martins) with regular visits from Tiffany Riley Crane, local resident artist.
Places are limited to a maximum of twelve per week so booking early is advised. British charter flights to Chania are mostly Tues-to-Tues, however line flights via Athens are available daily, so you can join us at any time and stay as long as you wish; but whenever you chose to join us you will be introduced to and welcomed by all.
Philippa and Bunny (her faithful, four-legged, canine(?) companion) are available to guide and accompany small groups of walkers all year round through the countryside on tried and tested sojourns of varying distances and difficulties. Tried and tested by us, that is. Besides some well-known gorges and guidebook documented walks, we offer many little-known rambles that even the locals couldn’t tell you much about. Many of the photos in the General Area Gallery were taken on these walks. Individuals or pairs of walker/and/or painters can join the regular PAINTCRETE program during May and September and enjoy Kerash Bey’s hospitality together with the ‘normal’ painting crowd. Small groups should get in touch anytime to arrange a holiday customized for their needs!! Use the ‘Contact Us’ link on this page.
